Please Read This! Soccer Program Updates

Every once in a while, we will slip in an update with a number of useful items.  Please take the time to update yourselves:

Several JV2 games have been cancelled recently, and the Athletic Department has been working hard to replace them.  We have just added two games with Lebanon.  Please make note on your schedules at home.  On Sept. 24, Hanover will travel to Lebanon for a 4:00 game, with a 3:00 p.m. departure. On October, Hanover will host Lebanon at Dresden at 4:30.

Every year, the Friends of Hanover Soccer publish a program book, with rosters, team photos, coach profiles and other features.  Some of you have been generous enough to support this venture by purchasing an ad.  We will be giving out the books on Wednesday at practice at Dresden.  Every player is entitled to one book.  It's possible that we will be making a second printing run if there are enough requests for additional books.

We are about to enter the phase of the season when we ask players and parents to help with several public service initiatives.  Many other HHS sports programs ask players to sell items or participate in money-raising ventures to benefit their teams.  As most of you know, we have a different approach to fundraising, and solicit funds with a general appeal via-e-mail.  We prefer to exempt players from the fundraising process for their teams so that they will have the time and energy to consider fundraising for good causes.  We have two such initiatives coming up in the next few weeks.

We will soon ask members of all four teams to consider helping with the annual CROP Hunger Walk, an initiative which supports CWS, a world-wide non-profit which specializes in hunger relief and disaster relief.  With the recent Hurricane Florence damage requiring all sorts of help, this fundraiser is particularly well-timed.  Participants in the CROP Walk are given the material to raise money in person or on-line, and also participate in the CROP Walk event in Lebanon on Sunday, October 7th.  Material describing the program will be given out this week at practice.  It is, of course, completely optional.  HHS teams have a wonderful history of raising thousands of dollars to alleviate hunger  nationally, internationally and locally.

A second opportunity to support a local charity is occurring this Saturday, when we will be running a food drive to benefit The Haven's food pantry. We will be collecting non-perishable food items at the games against Merrimack at HHS on Saturday.  The JV1 and Freshman games are at 4:00  (on the Turf and Grass, respectively), and the Varsity plays at 6:00 on the turf.  There will be collection boxes at both sites.  If every player and/or parent brings one or two items, we can collect several hundred pounds.  Keep an eye out at the stores for sale items in the next few days, and bring us some soup, peanut butter, cereal, spaghetti and sauce.  We would love your help to make this food drive a success!

There are several other public service projects that are underway, particularly with Varsity players.  We take our responsibility as members of the greater community seriously, and are grateful for your support.
