JV1 Rallies to Beat Bedford in Home Opener

The JV1 squad enjoyed a successful start to their home season, rallying for two second half goals to beat a strong Bedford team 2-1.  The Bulldogs jumped on top quickly, taking advantage of a fast break in the fourth minute to take a 1-0 lead.  The Marauders settled into the game and began to patiently take control, limiting Bedford to only a few scoring opportunities, while creating several for themselves.  Midway through the half, Quincy McBride hit a shot of the outside of the near post.  The ball deflected to Derek Lacy, whose shot was saved off the line.  Eight minutes from halftime, there was a mad scrum, led by Henry Aspinwall with the Bedford keeper out of his goal, but the half ended with Bedford holding onto their slim lead.

Hanover's pressure increased in the second half.  Five minutes after the interval, Sachin Rampersand hit a nearly perfect free kick, missing the upper 90 by a foot or so.  Undeterred, Rampersand tied the game two minutes later, combining with Tucker Monson on a short corner.  Hanover continued to press, and with 10 minutes left in the game Eric Ringer converted a far post header on a corner kick from Derek Lacy to give the Marauders the win.

Hanover's next game will be another challenge, as they travel to Keene on Wednesday to face a Blackbird team that fought the Marauders to a draw in a preseason scrimmage.
