JV1 Loses a Close Match to Central, 3-2

The JV1 team returned to their familiar home surroundings on Monday and lost a close match to a talented Manchester Central team by a 2-1 margin.  The Marauders started confidently, and in the 8th minute Eric Ringer got open for a shot that was wide of the mark.  Central featured a number of talented players, and in the 14th minute Jack Maynes was tested in the Hanover goal, stopping both a free kick and the ensuing rebound. The Marauders countered shortly afterwards, and Tucker Monson's free kick forced a save by the Central keeper.  Maynes was back in business at the halfway mark, making a save after a Little Green corner kick.  Hanover had the best chance in the late going of the first half, with a header by Will Ermarth on a corner kick by Theo Sparks.

Central threatened early in the second half on one of their corner kicks, and then broke through twice within 90 seconds, scoring twice on breaks through the middle of the Marauder defense.  Hanover stiffened, and pulled back a goal with 20 minutes left in regulation, when Alex Stephens knocked home the rebound of a shot by Peter Burnham.   Stevens nearly tied the match later on when his long shot from midfield hit the crossbar.  There were no Marauders in position to convert the rebound, though, and Central managed to limit further Hanover opportunities and emerged with the win.

Now 3-2 on the season, the JV1s will return to the road on Friday to play Concord at Memorial Field at 4:30, and the return to Hanover on Saturday, with a 4:00 game on Saturday on the Marriman-Branch turf.
