JV1 Bounces Back, Beats Portsmouth 2-1

Stung by their loss to Keene, the JV1 squad was happy to be back in action right away, playing well against a good Portsmouth team, and earning a 2-0 victory.  The Marauders played good team defense in front of Jack Maynes and scored a goal in each half to raise their record to 3-1.

Hanover took the initiative right from the start.  Henry Aspinwall came close to scoring in the 7th minute, taking a pass fro Eric Ringer on a counterattack and nearly sliding is past the goalkeeper.  Tucker Monson came close six minutes later, and Ringer almost opened the scoring at the 16-minute mark, getting a shot past the keeper that was cleared off the line.  Maynes was ready in the Hanover goal, making a good save on a high shot midway through the half.

The Marauders broke through with eight minutes left on the half when Pierce Hamlin slid a pass across the face of the goal, and Derek Lacy made a well-timed far post run to tuck the ball in for a 1-0 lead.  Hanover finished the half strongly despite losing Will Ermarth in injury four minutes from the interval.

Hanover had led 1-0 in their recent loss to Keene, and they were determined to open the second half on the front foot. They also made some defensive plays, with Maynes making a good save on a free kick, and Tucker Monson clearing a ball off the line.  The Marauders took control of the game in the final ten minutes, and got their precious insurance goal with seven minutes to play, with Peter Burnham feeding Henry Aspinwall on a counterattack following a corner kick.

Portsmouth pressed hard in the closing minutes.  Maynes made a diving save on a free kick with five minutes to play, and Jake Reznek made a crucial clear after Maynes came off his line  and couldn't connect with the ball at the top of the box.

The Marauders will rest up over the weekend before hosting traditionally strong Manchester Central on Monday at 4:00.
