JV1 Opens the Season With a 6-0 Win at Bishop Guertin

Hanover's deep and talented JV1 team opened the season in decisive fashion on Friday, traveling to scruffy Mines Falls Park in Nashua and beating Bishop Guertin 6-0.  It didn't take the Marauders long to establish themselves in the match. In the fist minute of play, Derek Lacy thumped a cross from the wing, and when the BG goalkeeper mishandled it, Alex Stephens was there to punish the mistake and tuck the ball into the net.  Hanover kept up the pressure, as Will Ermarth scored twice in a two-minute stretch, sneaking a one-touch shot past the keeper, and then converting a far post finish from Jake Reznek.  With ten minutes gone in the game, the Marauders led 3-0.  The Hanover defense was taking care of business at the other end.  Two minutes after EErmarth's second goal, Marauder goalkeeper CJ Wheelan came off his line to make a point blank save on a breakaway, preserving the shutout at a crucial juncture in the match.  Hanover controlled the play for the rest of the half, and three minutes from halftime they added an exclamation point, with Eric Ringer putting away a rebound from a Stephens shot.

Hanover Coach Willie Johnson kept rolling fresh subs into the match, and the Marauders flaunted their depth, wearing down a game but outgunned BG squad.  Twelve minutes after the interval, Ermarth showed his two-way expertise with a nice defensive block on a dangerous shot from the edge of the penalty area.  The Marauders added their final two goals of the game in the last 14 minutes, with Jack Maynes finding side netting, with Jake Reznek picking up his second assist, and Jackson Lake also adding a helper.  Eight minutes from the end of the match, Henry Aspinwall cleanly dispossessed the BG centerback and had a cool left-side finish to make the final score 6-0.

The Marauders will open their home schedule on Wednesday at 4:00 on the HHS grass field, hosting Merrimack.  If they get their homework done, they will have the chance to watch the Varsity match on the turf at 6:00.
