As the Hanover soccer candidates near the end of their busy first week of preseason, the entire gang will gather at the Pasture (Dresden Fields) for a morning that will help prepare two squads for evening scrimmages against Lebanon.
We're still a long way off before the Varsity team is named on Saturday, so the fact that the two teams playing Thursday are labeled "Varsity" and "JV" should not keep anyone awake at night. Nearly all of the 47 players suiting up on Thursday have been playing at a Varsity level, as we saw Wednesday evening when 42 Marauders played very well during a 2-1 loss to a star-studded Alumni team.
The teams for the Thursday scrimmages will be announced at Thursday morning's practice. Both teams will get maroon or grey practice jerseys. Players should do their best to wear maroon or black shorts and socks. Lebanon will be wearing white. The JV game is scheduled for 5:00 on the grass field at HHS. Kickoff will probably be delayed due to lack of warmup space. The JV squad should meet in the bench area and wait respectfully until the girls' practice is over. The Varsity game is scheduled for 6:00 on the HHS turf. Players should arrive at 5:15 and wait on the hill until field hockey is over. The football field is not available for warmup.
The same two squads (with one or two changes that will be communicated Thursday night) will depart at 8:30 SHARP on Friday morning for Keene. There will be no other practice sessions on Friday. That means that Thursday will be the last day for the Freshmen until next Monday.
